Summary

"The Conspiracy of Pontiac and the Indian War after the Conquest of Canada" by Francis Parkman is a historical story unveiling the events of Pontiac's Rebellion, in which Native American tribes fought against British colonial rule after the British took over Canada. Sharing the world of Native Americans and forest life in early America, the story digs into the political fallout from the conquest, which led to the downfall of Native American tribes. Readers meet the Iroquois and Algonquin tribes, discovering their societies, differences, and cultures before the arrival of Europeans, and the author lays out the scene for rising fights, showing how the Iroquois' ambition led them into major battles against other tribes and colonial powers.

About the Author

Francis Parkman Jr. was an American historian, best known as author of The Oregon Trail: Sketches of Prairie and Rocky-Mountain Life and his monumental seven-volume France and England in North America. These works are still valued as historical sources and as literature. He was also a leading horticulturist, briefly a professor of horticulture at Harvard University and author of several books on the topic. Parkman wrote essays opposed to legal voting for women that continued to circulate long after his death. Parkman was a trustee of the Boston Athenæum from 1858 until his death in 1893.
