Bob Hazard, dam builder

"Bob Hazard, Dam Builder" by Carl Brandt is a story from the early 1900's that tells of Bob Hazard’s choice to follow his dream. Bob wants to be a civil engineer instead of a lawyer, which is what his father wants. The story is about working hard to reach your goals, family connections, and dealing with difficult problems. Bob talks to his father about his wish to work out West. His father encourages him to become a lawyer, but Bob insists on his own plan, so he goes on a trip across the country. He joins an engineering group led by Steve Whitney, or "Whiskers." Bob learns about the challenges of nature, learns to work with others, and discovers his love for adventure as he gets ready to start a big civil engineering job, which creates a tale of both personal growth and excitement.
