Summary

"F.O.B. Venus" by Nelson S. Bond is a humorous science fiction tale where the clumsy second mate, Lancelot Biggs, turns a simple cargo run from Venus to Earth into a chaotic escapade. Aboard the cargo ship Saturn, Biggs' ineptitude leads to the accidental destruction of their valuable vegetable cargo. As the tale unfolds, what appears to be a disaster turns into a stroke of cosmic luck when the ruined produce is transmuted into gold due to unexpected exposure to cosmic rays. Biggs, despite his blunders, inadvertently becomes the key to a newfound fortune, leading the crew to eagerly plan a return voyage to Venus, hoping to repeat their alchemic success with more Forenzi jars and vegetables.
