Summary

"The Harvester" by Gene Stratton-Porter is a story from long ago about a man named David Langston, who everyone calls the Harvester. He spends his days gathering healing plants in the peaceful woods while struggling with big questions about his life, like whether he should find someone to love and what kind of work he really wants to do. He wonders if he should leave his quiet life for the excitement of the city or stay in the woods where he feels most at home with his dog, Belshazzar. The story shows how much nature meant to David and how badly he wanted to find someone special to share his life with, constantly thinking about his dream girl even while enjoying the beauty around him.
