Summary

"The Gospels in the Second Century" by W. Sanday is a historical study that examines the New Testament Gospels' origins during the second century while critically responding to claims made in the book "Supernatural Religion". Rather than offering a simple refutation, Sanday plans to carefully consider the arguments presented in the book, though he recognizes the challenges of verifying the Gospels' authority due to the reliance on historical accuracy and scholarly biases. Sanday points out how early Christian authors would frequently quote from memory or alter texts, making it difficult to determine the original intent and background; therefore, he's asking how to interpret this.
