Summary

"The Cat of Bubastes: A Tale of Ancient Egypt" by G. A. (George Alfred) Henty is a historical novel that transports readers to ancient Egypt during the rule of Thotmes III, where young Prince Amuba of the Rebu people faces tremendous hardship when his father, the king, is killed, and their nation is defeated by the Egyptians. This experience forces Amuba and his friend Jethro into captivity. The narrative focuses on bravery and holding onto one’s identity as Amuba and Jethro adjust to a new reality in a foreign land, learning to navigate their lives as prisoners after their initial capture during the war that destroyed Amuba's home. The story begins with the Rebu city on the verge of war against the powerful Egyptian army, setting the stage for the tragic battle that not only costs Amuba his father but also results in the defeat and capture of his people.
