Summary

"Layamon's Brut" by active 1200 Layamon chronicles the mythical history of Britain, beginning with King Constantin's arrival and battles to defend the land. Courage, betrayal, and the ruthless pursuit of authority are major themes as the story tells of the struggles between the Britons, Saxons, and Peohtes. Initially scared, the Britons unite, with women boldly disguising themselves as warriors, showcasing their resolve to reclaim their territory. Constantin ascends to the throne amidst treachery as groups battle for power, and the treachery of enemies and the unclear fate of Constantin's children suggest future conflict. It's an exciting story packed with historical events, engaging characters, and dramatic turns.
