Summary

"The Green God" by Frederic Arnold Kummer is an early 20th-century mystery novel about Owen Morgan, an illustrator whose life takes a dangerous turn when he gets caught up in a web of secrets surrounding Major Temple, his daughter Muriel, and the mysterious Robert Ashton. The story begins with Owen traveling through Pinhoe, where a storm leads him to unexpectedly meet Robert Ashton. They both share a ride that hints at conflict over a valuable emerald Buddha that Ashton has obtained under complicated conditions concerning Temple and his daughter. As Owen learns more, he realizes the relationships between these individuals are filled with despair and hidden desires, especially concerning Ashton’s interest in Muriel. After a troubling night ends in murder, Owen finds himself pulled further into the mystery, facing secrets and suspicions that could change everything.
