Melissa is introduced preparing to meet Caesar fully aware of the dangers, causing those around her to fear for her safety, however, she believes that due to her humble standings she does not need to worry. As Melissa attempts to navigate ambitious desires, love, and fidelity, the book paints a picture of political deceit and gender inequality, highlighting the challenges women faced in a world controlled by men.
