Summary

"The Body at Work: A Treatise on the Principles of Physiology" by Alex Hill is a scientific exploration of how living things function, written in the early 1900s. Instead of just describing what the body looks like, Hill explains the significance of exploring life and what life does by diving into various processes and how they rely on each other. The book is meant to be understood by people who may not already know a lot about science and it all starts with an introduction to physiology, explaining how it's different than anatomy. Hill shows how we’ve learned about the body through watching, experimenting, and drawing conclusions, teaching readers about the relationship between how the body works and what it's made of, setting the stage for an exciting exploration of life's functionalities.
