Summary

"1851; Or, The Adventures of Mr. and Mrs. Sandboys and Family" by Henry Mayhew, is a funny story that takes place when the Great Exhibition comes to London, telling the story of the Sandboys family, especially Mr. Christopher "Cursty" Sandboys and his wife, Aggy, who are kind of clueless and funny as they try to figure out the craziness and fun of this big event. Their kids, Jobby and Elcy, are curious and excited, unlike their parents, who don't really want to be there. At the start, the book shows how wild things get in their village of Buttermere and all over as everyone gets ready for the exhibition and how Mr. Sandboys does not want to travel and he thinks London dangerous. The story becomes a series of funny problems, like their helpers leaving and their food running out, all because their neighbors are so excited about the exhibition.
