Summary

"Death Wish" by Ned Lang is a science fiction narrative published in 1956 that tells the story of the space freighter "Queen Dierdre" and its crew's desperate fight for survival. Captain Somers, along with Mr. Watkins and Mr. Rajcik, face impossible odds when a major malfunction throws their ship out of the Solar System at an ever-increasing pace. Lost in the vastness of space, they grapple with the frightening prospect of dying alone, their only hope resting on the advanced Fahrensen Computer. As they struggle to find a way out, the computer offers a disturbing solution: a serum that grants them incredible longevity but dooms them to witness the endless passage of time. "Death Wish" captures the crew's increasing claustrophobia, their struggle against mechanical failure, and the disturbing choices they must make when faced with utter hopelessness.
