Summary

"The Lighter Side of School Life" by Ian Hay is a funny look at school in the early 1900s. The book uses silly stories to show us the different kinds of teachers and students that you find in schools, especially the headmaster. It wants to make people laugh by showing the funny parts of school and the strange people who work and learn there. Right away, we meet the "Headmaster of Fiction," who is like a perfect, made-up version of a school leader. Then, we see the "Headmaster of Fact," who is more real and has to deal with actual problems. The book makes fun of the crazy things that headmasters have to do, trying to be both strict and friendly. It gently points out that even though school is serious, it's also full of funny moments that make it special.
