Summary

"The Good Time Coming" by T. S. Arthur is a tale set in the 1800's, about Edward Markland, a person who achieves his goals of a rich life, but strangely feels unsatisfied and seeks more than what he has at Woodbine Lodge. The story looks into ideas about ambition, joy, and finding true satisfaction while dealing with what society expects and the decisions people make. We see Edward Markland looking back on his cozy life with his kind wife, Agnes, but he can't shake off a feeling of restlessness. While Agnes is busy helping others, like a sick neighbor, Edward dreams of things he hasn't yet done. A visitor named Mr. Lyon stirs up trouble by suggesting a different direction that could upset his family's happiness. This beginning lays the foundation that shows the clashing struggles to find happiness between chasing after worldly success and having a lasting home.
