Summary

"Once Upon A Planet" by J. J. Allerton is a science fiction story where King Miotis, a leader from another planet, is troubled by his people's waning appetite for war, so he attempts to find answers from his advisor, Kannot, who suggests that Miotis transfer his soul into an Earth warrior's body to solve his existential crisis. When Miotis' soul enters the body of Bly Stanton, from a damaged future Earth, he has a change of heart about the destructiveness of war versus the precious nature of life, particularly through his encounters with the planet's last surviving women. This leads Miotis to understand that the end of violence will bring the two planets a more promising reality, which inspires him on his return to his home to fight for a war-free future.
