Summary

"The 4-D Doodler" by Graph Waldeyer is a science fiction tale from the early 1900s that considers what happens when our world tangles with a dimension beyond our own. It examines how we understand what is real, how we see things, and what can go wrong when science goes looking for answers. Professor Gault, his helper Harper, and Dr. Pillbot talk a lot about whether smart beings could live in a fourth dimension. When Harper starts "doodling," a being from that dimension notices them, and things get crazy. The professor and Dr. Pillbot end up partly pulled into this other dimension, and because Harper can somehow see the fourth dimension, they get into all sorts of trouble. In the end, the professor gets stuck between dimensions, not quite able to come back to our three-dimensional world, and the story mixes funny moments with serious thoughts about trying to grasp things beyond what we can normally understand, and it makes you wonder about what scientists should be careful about.
