Summary

"The Horror Expert" by Frank Belknap Long is a thriller that introduces us to Helen Lathrup, a captivating but troubled woman with a deep interest in horror. Her world is full of psychological mystery, obsession, and fear, and she unknowingly drags those around her into a cycle of violence. Her fascination with horror stories and movies hints that her own life could be reflecting the disturbing tales she enjoys so much. From the start, she is shown as a striking and unsettling character who finds dark aspects of life interesting. As she deals with an irritating morning in New York City, she arrives at work to unexpectedly face a life or death situation. Soon after, an intruder with a gun appears in her office, leading to a shocking act of violence. This moment kicks off a intense psychological ride that looks into themes of obsession, morality, and the darker parts of the human mind.
