Summary

"Badge of Infamy" by Lester Del Rey is a science fiction novel that paints a grim picture of the future. It tells the story of Dr. Daniel Feldman, a disgraced doctor living in the shadows, punished by powerful medical and space organizations for something in his past. The book opens with Feldman struggling to survive in a run-down flophouse, haunted by what he's lost and the stigma he bears, where he is faced with the arrival of a deadly plague spreading from Mars. As he wrestles with his ruined career and an ethical dilemma of whether to help someone in need despite the threat of further punishment, the narrative explores powerful themes of right and wrong, societal control, and the desperate fight against a Martian disease.
