Summary

"Green Grew the Lasses" by Ruth Laura Wainwright is a science fiction story set in Mimosa Beach, where women and girls inexplicably start turning green, throwing the town into disarray. The story follows the Raymond family as they deal with this strange event, exploring ideas about who we are, what society expects, and how people react when things get weird, especially when only the men remain unchanged. Adding to the strangeness, four mysterious girls show up, claiming to be from Venus and suggesting their alien ways are superior. As more women start having unusual pregnancies, the situation gets even more bizarre. A plant called faneweed becomes important, revealing truths about what society expects from women and the meaning of motherhood. In the end, when the faneweed is gone, the characters go back to normal, but they have to think about what they went through and the crazy ride they were on.
