Summary

"The Satyricon — Complete" by Petronius Arbiter is a book set in Rome during the reign of Emperor Nero, that shows the escapades of Encolpius and his friends as they move through a Roman world filled with too much wealth and declining morals. The story starts with Encolpius criticizing the education of the time, arguing that the teaching methods are not producing wise people and that the adventures of Encolpius and Ascyltos are full of funny interactions that show just how silly their world really is, as these lead to unexpected misadventures. This sets the stage for a series of events and characters, mixing satirical humor and clear images of Roman life.
