Summary

"The Knight of Malta" by Eugène Sue is a historical fiction novel that paints a vivid picture of Provence when Algerian pirates terrorized the coast. The story throws us into a world of constant danger, where characters like Cardinal Richelieu and the honorable Baron des Anbiez are caught in the middle of political unrest and social change caused by these pirate attacks. We see the suffering of the people and how they must protect themselves, but the book introduces us to the brave Baron des Anbiez, who will protect them all. The story also hints at other key characters, like the bold young Muscovite, Erebus, when he saves the Baron’s life, hinting at a tale brimming with adventure, romance, and the timeless struggle against chaos and evil.
