Summary

"The Velvet Glove" by Henry Seton Merriman is a story set in Spain where duty and honor clash amid intense personal and political struggles. When Francisco de Mogente secretly arrives in Saragossa after being away for years, his life is immediately in danger. After an assassination leaves him mortally wounded, a friar finds him. Before he passes away, Francisco prepares to settle his affairs. Meanwhile, a composed man named Evasio Mon witnesses all this, and this sets the stage for a complex story about Mogente's family and their society.
