Summary

"The Talleyrand Maxim" by J. S. Fletcher is a mystery where a clerk named Linford Pratt stumbles upon a life-altering secret. When John Mallathorpe, a wealthy man, dies, Pratt's ordinary world turns upside down after finding the man's lost will in, of all places, an old book. The old bookseller who found the will suddenly dies, placing Pratt as the only person who knows about the will. Pratt is then faced with difficult choices about what to do with the will that could make him rich or lead to his downfall as he uncovers details about Mallathorpe's family.
