"Little Pollie" by Gertrude P. Dyer is a story set in London about ten-year-old Pollie; it follows her as she starts selling violets to help her sick mother. Pollie's journey shows her struggles with being poor and navigating the busy city streets. She meets different people, like Sally, a girl that sells flowers as well, and although she lost her father and her mother is sick, she always chooses to do what is right, like when she gives back extra money to a customer. The themes are about being kind, doing the right thing, and what it was like for poor people.
