Summary

"The Time Traders" by Andre Norton is a mid-20th century science fiction story about a rebellious young man, Ross Murdock, who is offered a chance to avoid punishment by volunteering for a secret government project. Ross, with his troubled past, chooses this mysterious path, leading him to time travel and the exploration of strange new worlds. The story shows Ross as a resourceful and cunning character thrust into this unusual situation. After meeting a judge and a military officer, Ross discovers this project may be his shot at redemption and is taken to a hidden base where he faces intense tests and meets his fellow volunteers, each with their own quirks and backstories. The early parts of the novel sets the scene for Ross' journey to becoming a time trader, suggesting he will have to face challenges as he goes back in time and deals with the dangerous parts of the experiment he signed up for; and the combination of action and the excitement of time travel draws readers into a speculative world.
