Summary

"The History of Rome, Book III" by Theodor Mommsen is a story that continues diving into the rise of ancient Rome, specifically covering the time from when Italy united to when Rome took over Carthage and Greece. It looks at all the different things that helped Rome become a superpower, like its politics, army, and money. The story starts by talking about the Phoenicians, who were great sailors and traders. The book shows how they spread their culture and power across the Mediterranean, mainly through their main city, Carthage. As Rome starts to grow and take over more land, it clashes with Carthage, which at the time was a commercial powerhouse. The early chapters set up the big battles to come, especially since the Phoenicians cared more about business than building an empire, and the Romans were all about expanding their territory.
