Summary

"The Danvers Jewels, and Sir Charles Danvers" by Mary Cholmondeley is a story set in the late 1800s filled with mystery. It follows Colonel Middleton, tasked with valuable jewels meant for Ralph Danvers after Sir John’s death. The Colonel must uncover secrets and navigate the complex Danvers family while holding this treasure. In the beginning, the story starts with Colonel Middleton getting ready to leave India and then suddenly finds himself with a bag of beautiful jewels from Sir John as he reveals a shocking story from the past. But, soon after this event, Sir John dies, and it's revealed to be a murder, leaving Middleton traveling with the jewels to England. There he runs into the Danvers family and also makes friends with an American named Carr, and unexpected problems arise from the family’s hidden past.

About the Author

Mary Cholmondeley was an English novelist. Her bestseller Red Pottage satirised religious hypocrisy and the narrowness of country life. It was adapted as a silent film in 1918.
