Summary

"The Caxtons: A Family Picture — Volume 17" by Edward Bulwer Lytton Lytton is a story that paints a picture of the Caxton family during Victorian times, weaving together their relationships, goals, and the rigid rules of society. Set partly in 19th century Australia, the book tracks Pisistratus Caxton and his friends as they face the hardships of colonial life alongside the complexities of family, particularly with the arrival of Uncle Jack, who brings both business drive and affection. Key figures like Guy Bolding and Vivian show differing paths toward ambition and fitting into society. Through their experiences in the tough Australian outback, the narrative brings to life the characters' hopes, letdowns, and longings, as Pisistratus wrestles with what it means to be successful and true to his family while yearning for a return to the values of home.
