Summary

"Selections from Viri Romae" by C. F. L'Homond is an educational book designed for people new to learning Latin by presenting stories of early Rome from classical authors. The book starts with Proca, king of Alba Longa, leaving his kingdom to Numitor, his oldest son, but Amulius, the younger brother, takes the throne. To end Numitor's family line, Amulius makes Numitor's daughter, Rhea Silvia, become a priestess, which leads to Romulus and Remus being born. After they are left alone, a wolf raises the twins, who later become heroes when they fight the thieves who captured Remus. The story builds up to the famous founding of Rome, growing out of the twins' competition and Romulus becoming king. This is both a collection of important moments from Roman mythology and a learning tool for students studying Latin through its literature.
