Summary

"Frida; or, the lover's leap: a legend of the West Country" by R. D. Blackmore is a historical novel that vividly paints a picture of love and devotion during the English Civil War. It follows Frida, a young woman of noble birth, as she grapples with her affection for her cousin Albert and the enticing Lord Auberley. Set in the beautiful landscapes of Devon, Frida's life takes a turn when Auberley arrives, bringing with him both charm and disruption. As political tensions escalate, Frida’s path is fraught with romantic disappointment, when Auberley marries another. Heartbroken and with her bonds challenged deeply, she makes a fatal leap from Duty Point; a sacrifice illustrating love’s volatile nature amidst a society at war with itself.
