"The Fortunate Youth" by William John Locke is a story about a young boy named Paul Kegworthy growing up in a troubled home during the early 1900s. Paul's life with his mean stepfather and unhappy mother, along with his many half-siblings, is tough, and he faces bullying and loneliness every day. But Paul has a big imagination and believes he's meant for something greater than his poor neighborhood. One special day, he meets a kind and pretty girl named Maisie Shepherd, who shows him that there's hope for a better life. This meeting sparks Paul's desire to get away from his sad life and discover who he's really meant to be and starts him on an adventure to find freedom and meaning.
