Summary

"Guy Mannering" by Sir Walter Scott, a part of the Waverley novels, tells a story set in the 1800s that looks at the ideas of what is meant to happen and the impact of where you come from. The book starts with a dad worried about what the stars say will happen to his new baby, because a mysterious person who studies astrology told him about the child's future. Later, Guy Mannering finds himself in a dangerous part of England, meeting different people along the way. His story at Ellangowan is full of guesses about the future, problems between people of different social standings, and human battles against what fate might have planned.
