Summary

"Letters from the Holy Land" by Elizabeth Butler is a compilation of letters recounting a personal journey through Palestine in the early 1900s. Told through her own eyes, the reader experiences her travel experiences, giving a look into both the scenery and the historic importance of the places she visits. As she moves from Venice toward the Holy Land, she tells of the shift from the well-known to a world full of religious and historical meaning. In the early letters she arrives with excitement in Jaffa, and tells of the differences between Egypt and Palestine. Her experiences set a tone of wonder as she experiences the places that are important to her beliefs.
