Summary

"Dark Recess" by George O. Smith is a science fiction story that explores what happens when science goes too far and the importance of personal well-being. The story centers around Clifford Maculay, a brilliant physicist, whose equations on negative space put him in the middle of a cosmic dilemma that could destroy the universe. While on a break from work, Clifford is treated for his work obsession by Doctor Hanson, who uses hypnosis. This helps Clifford discover a new, more carefree side of himself. He then goes to Venus, where he falls in love with a woman named Ava Longacre. Everything changes when Redmond, Clifford's assistant, tries to understand Clifford's theories, which could lead to disaster. The novel is all about finding yourself and the risks of having too much ambition, leading to a surprising ending about the effect of messing space and time.
