Summary

"NREN for All: Insurmountable Opportunity" by Jean Armour Polly is a scientific publication written in the early 1990s that examines the promises and problems related to a large digital network. It focuses on the National Research and Education Network (NREN) and its possibilities for increasing access for education for rural areas. The book emphasizes how NREN could help get rid of educational differences with the use of technology. Polly explores the challenges of putting NREN into place, especially concerning its accessibility, protecting personal information, and thinking about the part public libraries play in the process. She questions how people in the most isolated locations, especially children, can use these new technologies. She argues for the importance of public libraries as ways to get high-speed internet, simultaneously recognizing the money and logistical concerns that they might have. The publication is a call for fair access to information technology and keeping library services in the face of ever-changing digital needs.
