Summary

"The Flockmaster of Poison Creek" by George W. Ogden is a story about a teacher named John Mackenzie who decides to leave teaching to find his fortune raising sheep out West during the early 1900s. He wants more than just a normal life, so he starts a journey to Poison Creek, hoping sheepherding will bring him the adventure and money he craves. Quickly, he realizes that life isn't easy when he stumbles upon Mrs. Carlson, who tells him about the horrors of being abused by her husband, Swan. Mackenzie can not stand this treatment, so he is determined to go up against Swan himself. This act of courage changes Mackenzie as he fights for moral fairness in this wild land.
