Summary

"The Man from Glengarry: A Tale of the Ottawa" by Ralph Connor is a story about hard-working men in the Canadian forests. These brave lumberjacks from Glengarry County face tough times and stick together as they try to make a living in a wild place. The story follows Macdonald Dubh, his son Ranald, and a fellow lumberman who is also a competitor, LeNoir, as they deal with the challenges of their work and the rivalries that test their friendships. The scene opens with the end of winter on the Ottawa River. Dan Murphy, is trying make a living, but his time is disrupted by rivalries, especially with Macdonald Dubh, that boils over into a big fight. Through all of conflicts, the themes of loyalty, brotherhood, and doing the right thing always appear.
