Summary

"Feudal England: Historical Studies on the Eleventh and Twelfth Centuries" by J. H. Round is a deep exploration into the world of feudalism in England, especially how it grew and shaped the country's organizations during a little-known time in history. Round wants to make our knowledge of this period better by using records and proof that go along with commonly held stories. At the beginning, the book is introduced as a collection of Round's original papers on the subject. He wants to fix and explain what we already know about the eleventh and twelfth centuries, with a special interest in the importance of the Domesday Book and what it tells us about how land was valued. By looking at firsthand accounts, the author hopes to reveal new information about where feudalism came from and how society and politics worked in medieval England. He gets ready to carefully look at historical proof in the chapters that follow.
