Summary

"Slave Narratives: A Folk History of Slavery in the United States from Interviews with Former Slaves" is a compilation of voices from those who lived through enslavement, captured in interviews during the late 1930s. Through the Federal Writers' Project, former slaves share their diverse memories, from childhoods spent under different owners to the surprising arrival of freedom, along with the experiences of their parents, painting a vivid picture of their lives, both challenging and hopeful as they transitioned into a new era where they demonstrated strength and resilience.
