Summary

"Fungi: Their Nature and Uses" by M. C. Cooke is a late 19th-century scientific exploration into the realm of fungi, illuminating their defining characteristics, categorization, and critical roles in the environment and agriculture; this publication seeks to impart a thorough understanding of fungi, dissecting their developmental processes, reproductive strategies, and natural functions, while setting the stage by grappling with the basic issues of distinguishing between plants, animals, and minerals, and dissecting common perceptions of their structures, differences, and botanical debates addressing their classification and connections to other life forms.

About the Author

Cooke was the elder brother of the art-education reformer Ebenezer Cooke (1837–1913) and father of the book illustrator and watercolour painter William Cubitt Cooke (1866–1951).
