Summary

"My Year in a Log Cabin" by William Dean Howells is a story of childhood in the American Midwest during the 1800s. The memoir follows a boy’s life as he grows up in a log cabin with his family in Ohio. The family moved to a simple log cabin, which they fixed up and made their home. It tells about exploring nature, doing chores, and learning about life in a small rural community. The story shows how the boy changed as he grew older, and how his view of the world shifted with each new experience, until he and his family moved to a different home. It shows what life was like back then and how important family, nature, and memories of childhood can be.
