Returning Home

Returning Home by Anthony Trollope is a story set in the Victorian era, focusing on homesickness and the desire for home. It tells the moving story of Mr. and Mrs. Arkwright, who are trying to get back to England after living in Costa Rica for many years. The story looks at the difference between the thrill of living in a new place and the strong need to be back where you belong. As the Arkwrights plan their difficult trip back to England, Mrs. Arkwright is excited to see her family again after four years. But their excitement fades away when they face difficult travel through dangerous rainforests. While they deal with tough conditions and extreme weather, they stay determined to keep going. Sadly, during a boat trip, Mrs. Arkwright drowns, ruining their dreams of going home and leaving Mr. Arkwright with deep sadness and regret. Through this story, Trollope shows how easily human desires can be crushed and how returning home can be both happy and sad.
