Summary

"Bobbie, a Story of the Confederacy" by Kate Langley Bosher is a tale set during the American Civil War, that follows young Bobbie Tayloe as he navigates childhood on a Southern plantation. The story explores the deep friendship between Bobbie and Peter Black, a boy who works on the farm, while painting a picture of life in the South before the war. You see their bond grow through horse races, adventures, and even an accident that causes Bobbie harm. As the story starts, it shows the family connection and the old-fashioned plantation way of life, but also hints at the troubles that will come as Bobbie gets older and the war gets closer, giving us an overall tone that captures the happiness of youth, with a feeling of impending doom.
