Summary

"Episodes in Van Bibber's Life" by Richard Harding Davis is a compilation of stories from the beginning of the 1900s that follow Young Van Bibber, a likable and imaginative guy who encounters funny and touching situations that show what people and society are like. It’s a mix of funny and thoughtful, often looking at friendship, kindness, and what's wrong with society. The stories show Van Bibber dealing with different things in his life and how he interacts with fascinating people; in one instance he becomes friends with a performer and sees the good and bad of theater, while in another, he tries to be brave and smart by looking for a dog but ends up in silly problems. Through these stories, Davis shows what life was like when he was writing, with Van Bibber as someone we can all understand, dealing with both simple things and big moral questions.
