Summary

"Accidental Flight" by F. L. Wallace is a science fiction story set in a world where physical perfection is prized, and those deemed imperfect, known as "accidentals," are isolated on Handicap Haven. The story kicks off with Dr. Cameron and Docchi, one of the accidentals, discussing the Medicouncil's denial of their spaceship crew request, showcasing the accidentals' yearning for freedom against societal rejection. It is about the accidentals' fight against the Medicouncil in their relentless push to escape and find self-worth, despite their physical disabilities and the elite's prejudice that seeks to hold them back by limiting their agency. As Cameron becomes more aware of the accidentals' growing dissent, the story digs into identity, capability, and the courage to defy injustice, highlighting their dreams and the obstacles they face on their path to liberation.
