Summary

"The Works of Lord Byron. Vol. 6" by George Gordon Byron is a compilation of poems that features the long, amusing story of "Don Juan." This poem is all about poking fun at society while following Don Juan on his adventures with love, right and wrong, and all the messy parts of being human. The poem begins by introducing Don Juan and his family life in Seville, setting up the story by contrasting his father's noble background with his mother's intelligence, showing the push and pull between them as his mother tries to make him into a perfect young man. The narrative hints at the experiences that will shape Don Juan as he interacts with the world, using humor to question the rules and expectations of the time, especially when it comes to love and wanting things.
