Summary

"Swetnam, the Woman-hater, arraigned by Women" by Anonymous is a play from the 1600s that uses humor to look at how men and women treated each other. The story centers on Misogynos, a character who really doesn't like women, and it's set up like a trial where women's actions and complaints are closely examined, showing the power struggles in love and society. The play starts with Loretta talking to the crowd, pointing out the unfair treatment women get from men like Misogynos. Then, noblemen and the royal family talk about Prince Lorenzo going missing and the King's sadness, which creates a serious mood for what's to come. The first act also shows the complicated relationships between the characters, and we see Misogynos getting ready to strongly criticize women, which starts a big conflict that lasts throughout the play.

About the Author

Anonymous works are works, such as art or literature, that have an anonymous, undisclosed, or unknown creator or author. In the case of very old works, the author's name may simply be lost over the course of history and time. There are a number of reasons anonymous works arise.
