Summary

"A Lady of Quality" by Frances Hodgson Burnett is a historical fiction novel that follows the life of Clorinda, a girl born into a chaotic home. Her father is a loud, uncaring man, and her mother dies shortly after giving birth to her. As Clorinda grows up, she struggles to balance her own strong will with what society expects of her, facing challenges related to her unusual upbringing and the lack of warmth in her family. The story begins at Wildairs Hall, introducing Clorinda’s father, Sir Jeoffry, who seems more interested in hunting than in his family's well-being as his wife, Lady Daphne, weakens and passes away after Clorinda's birth. From these difficult beginnings, Clorinda's story becomes one of resilience, identity, and dealing with the high expectations of her world.
