Beginning with the sorrowful death of Tsar Nicholas I inside the Winter Palace, the story explores the complex relationships and impactful events affecting the Imperial family. As Russia faces turmoil amidst the Crimean War, the Tsar's last moments and final advice to his son, Alexander II, set the stage for a close look at the characters of the aristocracy, unveiling the Tsar's profound effect on both the nation's policies and its interactions with the world.
