Summary

"Not Guilty: A Defence of the Bottom Dog" by Robert Blatchford is a book that looks at morality and fairness through the eyes of the "Bottom Dog"—those on the edges of society. It asks us to rethink how we judge and punish people, especially when their lives are shaped by tough beginnings and surroundings. The author starts by saying he wants to have an honest talk about important social problems, rather than writing a boring school paper. The book claims that many of society's problems come not from people being bad, but from things they can't control, like what they inherit and where they grow up. It challenges the idea of punishing people just because they were born into difficult situations, pushing readers to think harder about what's right and wrong in an imperfect world.
